India News : Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has been granted Z-category security cover by the CRPF following an attack on her on Wednesday. CRPF commandos have been deployed for her protection since Wednesday night, after the Union Home Ministry acted swiftly on the matter.
The accused, Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakaria (41), was produced in court on Thursday and sent to five-day police custody. Delhi Police has booked him under charges of attempt to murder along with sections 109(1), 132, and 221 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A resident of Rajkot, Gujarat, Sakaria already faces multiple criminal cases.
According to the investigation, Sakaria arrived in Delhi by train from Rajkot on Tuesday, stayed at Gujarati Bhawan in Civil Lines, and even visited the CM’s residence. Before the attack, he reportedly informed a friend over the phone. Delhi Police has now sought details of his criminal record from Gujarat Police.
Several political leaders, including Manoj Tiwari, Bansuri Swaraj, and MP Yogendra Chandolia, visited the CM to check on her well-being. BJP leader Kapil Mishra said Gupta needed rest and urged police to probe the attacker’s wider network.
Doctors confirmed that CM Rekha Gupta’s condition is stable after her medical examination. While she suffered physical injuries and psychological trauma, Gupta said: “The attack during my public hearing was a cowardly attempt, but it will not weaken my resolve. I will continue to serve the people.”
