Jharkhand News : The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday delivered its verdict on a petition filed by two officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The court of Justice S.K. Dwivedi ordered a CBI investigation into the matter.
The court also directed that a First Information Report (FIR) be registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and that a proper investigation be carried out. The judgment was reserved on February 24 after the hearing in the case was completed.
On behalf of the ED, Solicitor General of India S.V. Raju, Advocate A.K. Das, and Advocate Saurabh Kumar presented arguments. Representing the state government were senior Supreme Court advocate S. Nagamuthu, Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan, and Advocate Dipankar. Advocate Sumit Gadodia represented the informant.
ED Seeks FIR Cancellation and CBI Probe
The matter is related to Airport Police Station Case No. 05/2026, in which Santosh Kumar had filed an FIR against ED officials. The ED approached the High Court seeking cancellation of the FIR and demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI for investigation. The agency also requested the court to direct registration of an FIR against the complainant Santosh Kumar.
What Is the Case About?
Santosh Kumar is accused of embezzling around ₹23 crore of government funds in connection with an alleged drinking water scam. The ED has registered an ECIR against him in the case.
According to the ED, Santosh Kumar had voluntarily appeared at the ED office on January 12, 2026. During questioning, he allegedly became agitated and struck his own head with a water jug, causing minor injuries. Later, he filed a complaint at the Airport police station accusing ED officials of assault.
