Jharkhand News : A wave of fear has gripped Koderma district in Jharkhand after a wild Elephant entered urban areas and killed two people in separate incidents on Wednesday night.
According to reports, an elephant was first spotted near Mariyampur and later entered the Birhor Tola locality, where it trampled a 55-year-old woman, identified as Munia Birhorin, to death. Another woman, Aarti Birhorin, was injured in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
After being chased away by villagers, the elephant moved towards the Bonakali Women’s College area, where it attacked and killed a 40-year-old man, Baleshwar Soren. The animal then proceeded towards a forest guest house and damaged the main boundary gate.
The incident has created panic among residents in Mariyampur and Bonakali areas. A team from the forest department reached the spot but failed to drive the elephants far away. Locals claim that a group of three elephants is roaming in the region, with at least one still hiding in nearby forest areas.
Meanwhile, another herd of elephants has reportedly been seen in the forests near Koderma Valley. Residents have alleged that the forest department lacks adequate resources to handle the situation, stating that officials attempted to drive the animals away using only torches, which proved ineffective.
The elephants are still believed to be in nearby जंगल areas, posing an ongoing threat and keeping residents on edge.
