Jharkhand News : A herd of elephants created panic in Jaynagar block of Koderma district on Tuesday night, leaving two people dead, including a child, and injuring three others in separate incidents.
The first incident took place at a brick kiln in Kanjhiyadih village around 11:30 PM. Rajkumar Manjhi (30), a resident of Ramnagar in Fatehpur, Bihar, was trampled to death by the elephants. His wife, Gauri Devi, sustained injuries in the attack.
The second incident occurred near Khagardih, close to Khohapahadi, at another brick kiln owned by Raju Sao around 1:00 AM. A herd of elephants chased and killed Ankush Kumar (10). In the same incident, Kari Devi (28) and a two-month-old infant, Dilkush Kumar, were injured. All victims are residents of Pakaria village under Hisua police station in Nawada district.
The tragic incidents left families devastated. On Wednesday morning, the Forest Department provided an immediate compensation of ₹25,000 each to the families of the deceased.
Upon receiving the information, Station In-Charge Vikas Kumar, SI Pratik Topno, and Krishna Dev Yadav reached the spot and sent the injured to Sadar Hospital, Koderma, for treatment.
Local representatives and villagers have alleged negligence on the part of the Forest Department, claiming that officials only respond after such incidents and fail to take preventive measures to drive the elephants away.
