India News : The brutal killing of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in a mob violence incident in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, has shaken people across the world. Reports highlighting the miserable condition of his family after his death triggered an emotional appeal on social media, uniting people globally on humanitarian grounds. As a result, financial assistance has started pouring in from India, the United States, Singapore and several other countries, providing much-needed support to the grieving family.
To facilitate help for Dipu Das’ family, members of the minority community in Bangladesh opened a bank account on Monday. For days, social media users had been asking how they could reach out and assist the helpless family. Within hours of the account being opened, donations from across the country and abroad began to arrive.
Professor Kushal Baran Chakraborty of Chittagong University’s Sanskrit department, who visited the victim’s family as part of a delegation, said that lakhs of rupees have already been collected after sharing the account details online. Along with financial aid, people are also expressing solidarity by sharing screenshots of their donations and messages of sympathy.
Dipu Das was the sole earning member of his family and worked at a garment manufacturing company on a modest salary. Due to his hard work and dedication, he was recently promoted. Tragically, this promotion became the reason for his death. It is alleged that some colleagues, driven by jealousy, falsely accused him of spreading provocative content on social media—despite the fact that Dipu did not even own a smartphone. This false rumor led to him being targeted and lynched by a mob.
Currently, the Das family is living in extremely poor conditions in the Tarakandi area of Mymensingh, residing in a temporary and dilapidated shelter behind a warehouse. Dipu had been married for only two years and is survived by his wife and a small child. According to Professor Chakraborty, the family is completely broken both emotionally and financially. At one point, they did not even have money for a week’s meals, and there were attempts to stop them from bringing Dipu’s body home.
This heartbreaking incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of minority communities and the state of justice in Bangladesh. While the global financial assistance has offered temporary relief to the bereaved family, the demand for strict action against those responsible for Dipu Das’ killing is growing stronger. People around the world are now calling not only for support but also for justice for the innocent victim.
