GST Collection August 2026: Revenue Rises 14.8% to ₹1.99 Lakh Crore

India News : India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection recorded strong growth in August 2026. According to provisional government data, gross GST collection rose 14.8% year-on-year to ₹1,99,853 crore, close to the ₹2 lakh crore mark. Gross GST collection stood at ₹1,74,116 crore in August last year.

Gross GST revenue from domestic transactions increased 9.3% to ₹1,37,249 crore in August. GST revenue from imports recorded a sharper increase of 29%, rising to ₹62,604 crore.

GST Refunds Rise Sharply

GST refunds also witnessed a significant increase during August. Total refunds rose 67.9% to ₹31,795 crore.

After adjusting for refunds, net GST revenue stood at ₹1,68,057 crore in August 2026. This was 8.3% higher than the corresponding period last year.

CGST and SGST Collections

Gross Central GST (CGST) collection stood at ₹38,413 crore, while State GST (SGST) collection was recorded at ₹46,316 crore.

Integrated GST (IGST) collection stood at more than ₹1.15 lakh crore.

August Collection Lower Than July

Although August GST collection recorded strong year-on-year growth, it was lower than the gross collection of ₹2.11 lakh crore recorded in July 2026. GST collection in July had grown 15.4% year-on-year.

The August figures reflect the contribution of both domestic business activity and higher GST receipts from imports. Trends in consumption, business activity and imports are expected to influence GST collection figures in the coming months.
