Jharkhand News : Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali witnessed a blend of Indian classical and light music during its Inter-House Singing Competition organised by the school’s Secondary Section at the prestigious Dayanand Auditorium.
The competition was organised to connect students with the rich tradition of Indian music and provide a new platform to their hidden artistic talent. Young and teenage performers filled the auditorium with melodious notes, classical ragas and enthusiastic performances.
Students Perform Raga Bihag, Bhairav and Ghazals
Students presented performances based on Raga Bihag, Raga Bhairav and ghazals, drawing loud applause from the audience. The Dayanand Auditorium echoed with claps as the participants showcased their singing skills and musical talent.
During the programme, Secondary Section in-charge Shileshwar Jha ‘Sushil’ inspired the students by quoting the Sanskrit verse, “Sahitya Sangeet Kalavihinah Sakshat Pashuh Puchchha Vishanahinah.”
He said that music and art keep human emotions alive. A life without art is merely like breathing, and every student should take time out from their busy routine to develop an interest in music, literature and art.
Music is a Medium of Discipline and Spiritual Connection: Principal
Addressing the gathering at the conclusion of the programme, school principal B. N. Jha appreciated the coordination of sur, laya and taal displayed by all the participants.
He said that music is not merely a means of entertainment but also a discipline for the soul and one of the simplest ways to connect with God. Students who practise music and art naturally develop qualities such as concentration, patience and tolerance.
In the present digital age, when children are becoming increasingly absorbed in technology, the practice of ragas and ghazals is helping nurture the country’s cultural roots, he said.
He added that winning and losing are only stages of a competition, while the real victory lies in the dedication and courage that brings a student to the stage. His address infused students with fresh energy and enthusiasm.

Mohan Kumar Pathak and Mrs Ghazal Mishra served as judges for the competition. The programme was anchored by Anmol Sinha, who conducted the event with an energetic voice and effective presentation.
