Jharkhand News : A major update has emerged regarding voter lists. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to begin the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 22 states and Union Territories, including Jharkhand, Delhi, and Uttarakhand.
The Election Commission has directed the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of the concerned states and UTs to complete all preparations at the earliest. According to the Commission, SIR is likely to be conducted in April as part of its third phase.

The Commission has issued instructions for SIR in the following regions:

📌 Status of Earlier Phases

In the first phase, SIR was completed in Bihar.

In the second phase, the process is currently underway in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and 12 other states and Union Territories.

In Assam, instead of SIR, a special summary revision of the voter list was completed on February 10.
⚖️ Political Row Over SIR
The announcement of SIR has sparked political controversy nationwide. Opposition parties have alleged that the exercise could be used to deliberately remove voters’ names from electoral rolls. Leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Mamata Banerjee have been vocal in their criticism, accusing both the Election Commission and the central government of wrongdoing.
