Jharkhand News : Due to the ongoing shortage of LPG cylinders in several parts of the country, the kitchen operations at Sadar Hospital Khasmahal have been affected. For the past two days, the supply of cooking gas cylinders to the hospital has been completely disrupted, forcing the kitchen staff to rely on traditional wood and coal stoves to prepare meals for patients.
Temporary stoves have been set up behind the hospital premises where cooks start preparing food early in the morning. Despite the difficulties, breakfast, lunch, and dinner for admitted patients are being prepared and served on time as per the regular schedule.
The hospital’s food vendor Omkar Nath said that LPG cylinder supply has been completely halted for the last two days. Despite contacting several gas agencies, they have not been able to obtain cylinders. In such a situation, keeping patients without food was not an option, so the team decided to arrange alternative cooking methods using wood and coal stoves.
He added that the hospital management has been informed verbally about the situation. However, working in heavy smoke has made cooking extremely difficult for the staff. Still, the cooks continue their work to ensure that patients receive their meals without delay.
Interestingly, the crisis in the kitchen has not affected the patients’ meals. Several admitted patients said they are receiving food on time every day and that the quality of the food remains good. According to them, the meals are tasty and served in sufficient quantity.
Meanwhile, the hospital administration considers the situation a serious challenge. Maintaining hygiene and health standards is extremely important in sensitive institutions like hospitals. Cooking food on wood and coal stoves for a long time may not be practical, as smoke and ash can make it difficult to maintain cleanliness in the kitchen.
The hospital management has contacted the district administration and gas agencies requesting LPG cylinders under an emergency quota. Officials hope that the gas supply will soon be restored and the hospital kitchen will return to its normal operations.
