India News : A widow named Reshma approached the district collectorate in Muzaffarnagar seeking justice for her 14-year-old mentally challenged daughter, alleging illegal demands for money and serious medical negligence at a government hospital.
According to the woman, her daughter underwent surgery on a fractured right leg at the district hospital about one and a half months ago. She claimed that hospital staff demanded ₹25,000 for the treatment. When she explained that she was a widow and could not afford the amount, she was allegedly denied treatment.
Free Treatment Order Allegedly Ignored
Reshma said she later appealed to the district administration, after which the District Magistrate directed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to ensure free treatment for her daughter. Despite the order, hospital staff allegedly took ₹8,000 from her and told her that the remaining amount could be paid later.
Allegation of Forced Knee Manipulation
The woman alleged that during a follow-up visit, the operating doctor, identified as Dr. Chaturvedi, attempted to bend her daughter’s knee forcefully as part of the recovery process.
According to the complaint, the girl screamed in pain and a cracking sound was heard from her leg. The mother claims that she was then sent away without proper attention. Later, an X-ray reportedly showed that the bone had fractured again.
Reshma alleged that despite complaining to senior doctors, no action was taken.
Health Department Launches Investigation
Reacting to the allegations, Sunil Tevatia, the Chief Medical Officer of Muzaffarnagar, said it would be premature to comment before hearing all sides of the case.
However, he confirmed that a thorough inquiry has been ordered. He stated that if any negligence or misconduct by hospital staff or doctors is established during the investigation, strict legal and administrative action will be taken against those responsible.
The investigation is currently underway, and authorities are examining the allegations made by the victim’s family.
