Bhagalpur : The flood crisis in Nathnagar block of Bhagalpur district is worsening as water levels in the Ganga and its tributaries continue to rise. Several panchayats have turned into isolated islands, while a middle school in Belkhuria Panchayat and Purani Sarai village in Bhuvalpur Panchayat have been surrounded by floodwater.
Waterlogging has severely disrupted normal life in the affected areas, forcing residents to face difficult conditions for their daily needs.
Belkhuria School Campus Under Knee-Deep Water
Madhya Vidyalaya in Belkhuria Panchayat is surrounded by floodwater from all sides. Knee-deep water has accumulated inside the school campus, yet students are reportedly forced to wade through the water with their school bags to reach their classrooms.
The flooding around the school building has raised concerns among parents and local residents over the safety of children. Villagers said the water level is continuing to rise, increasing fears of an accident.
Purani Sarai Village Also Surrounded by Floodwater
The situation in Purani Sarai village under Bhuvalpur Panchayat is also serious. The entire village has been surrounded by floodwater, with several feet of water flowing through internal lanes and main roads.
Vehicular movement has come to a complete halt. Residents are being forced to walk through floodwater to arrange essential supplies such as ration, medicines and milk.
Elderly, Women and Patients Face Difficulties
The flood has also affected everyday life in the village. Elderly people, women and patients stranded in the affected areas are facing increasing difficulties.
Local residents have expressed anger over the situation. According to affected villagers, the water level is rising continuously, but administrative officials have not yet visited the area.
Villagers Demand Boats and Relief Camps
Residents have demanded immediate alternative arrangements for students in the affected schools or the declaration of holidays in view of children’s safety.
They have also demanded government boats for safe transportation in Purani Sarai and other waterlogged villages, along with the establishment of relief camps.
