Bihar News : Around 100 pilgrims from Maharashtra who were stranded in Kathmandu following a sudden flash flood in Nepal were safely evacuated by the Bihar government and sent to their home state by train.
The evacuation was carried out following a request from the Maharashtra government. Under the directions of the Bihar Chief Minister and continuous supervision of the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, the Sitamarhi district administration took immediate action on August 28.
Pilgrims Escorted Safely from Nepal to Sitamarhi
The pilgrims were safely escorted from the Nepal border to Sitamarhi by the district administration. Food, drinking water and other essential facilities were arranged for them after their arrival.
The pilgrims were subsequently brought from Sitamarhi to Patna at around 2:30 am on August 29. The Patna district administration arranged accommodation for them at the OP Sah Community Building.
Food, accommodation, medical check-ups and other essential facilities were provided to the pilgrims during their stay in Patna.
Two Additional Coaches Arranged on Train
The Bihar Chief Secretary’s office coordinated with the Chairman of the Railway Board in New Delhi to facilitate the pilgrims’ journey to Maharashtra.
Following the coordination, two additional coaches were attached to the Patna-Purna Express. The pilgrims were safely sent to their home state by train at around 7:30 am on August 29.
Pilgrims Thank Bihar Government
After their safe and dignified return arrangements, the pilgrims expressed their gratitude to the Bihar government and the Sitamarhi and Patna district administrations.
They thanked the authorities for their prompt response, sensitivity and coordinated relief efforts during the emergency.
