However, as political equations changed, Nishant Kumar took oath as Bihar’s new Health Minister during the expansion of Samrat Choudhary’s Cabinet in May.
In the beginning, public opinion about Nishant Kumar was quite harsh. Social media users mocked everything from his loose-fitting clothes to his hesitation while speaking. He was also heavily trolled for a statement made on his first day in office.
When asked questions after taking charge, Nishant Kumar had said, “I do not know much yet. Give me some time, let me understand everything.”
However, within just four months, the narrative around him appears to have changed. The same Nishant Kumar whose abilities were questioned earlier is now drawing attention across Bihar for his working style.
Surprise Inspections in the Middle of the Night
Nishant Kumar has been making surprise visits to hospitals, including a late-night inspection at Sadar Hospital in Sitamarhi. Without much fanfare, he has been checking the arrangements and facilities available to patients.
He has also been visiting wards of major hospitals such as PMCH and directly interacting with patients and members of the public. He has been asking whether medicines are available, whether doctors are present and what problems patients are facing during treatment.
Social Media Mood Begins to Change
The mood on social media has also shifted. People who earlier criticised Nishant Kumar’s appearance and manner of speaking are now praising his approach to work.
Ranjan Singh wrote on X, “Could anyone have imagined that someone who spoke like this would be India’s Health Minister? He had been quietly gathering information about everything for so long.”
He further wrote, “On the first day, Nishant Kumar had said that he did not know much and needed time to understand everything. Now he understands a lot. Now the game has started.”
‘The Negative Image Has Changed’
Another social media user, Ankit Sharma, wrote that, like him, many people initially had a negative image of Nishant Kumar. However, according to him, Nishant Kumar has gradually proved that perception wrong through his continuous efforts and work.
In four months as Health Minister, Nishant Kumar’s surprise hospital inspections and style of functioning have generated a new discussion around his public image. After facing trolling in the initial days, he is now also receiving appreciation on social media for his work.
