Ranchi: In light of the potential impact of the cyclonic storm ‘Arnab’—including heavy rainfall, strong winds, and the risk of lightning—the state government has directed officials to remain vigilant regarding crop protection and disaster management, emphasizing the need to act in the best interests of farmers.
In a press release issued on Thursday, Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari instructed the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of all districts to conduct immediate on-site surveys of the damage caused to paddy crops and to provide relief to the affected farmers in accordance with established rules.
The Minister directed administrative teams to visit villages, inspect the fields, and conduct an impartial assessment of the actual damage. He further instructed that a list of affected farmers be compiled so that those eligible can receive compensation under government provisions. He emphasized that any negligence or perfunctory approach during the survey process would not be tolerated.
The Minister has also directed the district administration to ensure robust disaster management preparations and to increase surveillance in vulnerable areas. Regarding healthcare services, he instructed Civil Surgeons to remain on alert and ensure that government hospitals are equipped with at least 10 additional beds, essential medicines, oxygen supplies, and ambulances.
Furthermore, the Minister stressed the need for preparedness to address incidents such as lightning strikes, snakebites, and rain-related illnesses. He directed all Deputy Commissioners to collect block-wise reports and submit a consolidated assessment of the damage to the state government, ensuring that the state has a comprehensive overview of the losses incurred.
