Patna : Thousands of competitive examination aspirants took to the streets in Bihar’s capital Patna over concerns regarding the fairness and procedures of recruitment and competitive examinations conducted by BSSC, BPSSC and BPSC.
The protest turned tense near JP Golambar after students who had marched from Gandhi Maidan towards the Chief Minister’s residence clashed with police while attempting to move ahead.
Students Break Barricades at JP Golambar
A large number of aspirants marched from Gandhi Maidan while raising slogans. To stop the protesters from moving towards the Chief Minister’s residence, the administration had put up heavy barricading at JP Golambar.
However, the protesting students broke through the iron barricades and climbed over them. Some aspirants also attempted to move ahead by running alongside the barricades.
Police personnel intervened to stop the protesters, leading to heated exchanges and intense pushing and shoving between the students and police.
What Are the Students Demanding?
The protesters have alleged irregularities in the 70th BPSC examination and the recruitment process for 1,799 Sub-Inspector posts. They are demanding that both processes be immediately cancelled.
The students are also demanding that pending examinations of the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) be conducted as soon as possible without further delay.
Demand for High-Level Probe
The protesters are demanding transparency in recruitment procedures and a high-level investigation into the alleged irregularities.
A heavy police force has been deployed at the protest site as authorities attempt to bring the situation under control.
