India News : The administration on Saturday morning demolished a mosque structure located inside the Saharanpur Collectorate complex, following legal proceedings in which the construction was found to be on government land.
According to the administration, the City Magistrate’s court had declared the construction illegal, and the mosque committee’s first appeal against the order had also been rejected. Heavy police deployment and security arrangements were made during the demolition.
The action triggered political reactions after Kairana MP Iqra Hasan, who was preparing to travel to Saharanpur, was placed under house arrest at her residence and prevented from leaving.
Administration Cites Court Proceedings
The mosque located inside the Saharanpur Collectorate complex had been the subject of a dispute for some time. The administration began the demolition operation on Saturday morning, deploying a bulldozer at the site.
Officials said the City Magistrate’s court had found the construction to be illegal and located on government land. The mosque committee had filed its first appeal against the order, but the appeal was rejected and the original order of the City Magistrate was upheld.
Heavy Police and Security Deployment
Security was tightened across Saharanpur before the demolition. The administration said additional police personnel, five companies of PAC and RRF personnel were deployed in view of the ongoing situation and upcoming festivals.
Foot patrolling and flag marches were also carried out continuously in areas with mixed populations. A large number of police personnel remained deployed around the Collectorate complex during the demolition operation.
Saharanpur Range DIG Abhishek Singh said all legal procedures had been completed before the action was taken. According to him, the demolition was carried out only after completing the prescribed process, including notices and the appeal procedure.
Warning Against Rumours on Social Media
DIG Abhishek Singh also warned against spreading rumours on social media regarding the matter. He said action would be taken against anyone found spreading rumours related to the demolition.
Security arrangements were strengthened around the Collectorate complex as the demolition continued, with police personnel deployed in large numbers at the site.
MP Iqra Hasan Put Under House Arrest
Meanwhile, Kairana MP Iqra Hasan was placed under house arrest at her residence while she was preparing to travel to Saharanpur. A large police contingent reached her residence and prevented her from leaving.
After being stopped, Hasan said she wanted to meet officials regarding the Saharanpur Collectorate mosque issue and present the concerns of the people before the administration.
She alleged that she had been confined to her residence to prevent her from travelling to Saharanpur.
The MP questioned whether meeting officials over an issue concerning the public had now become an offence for an elected representative. She said elected representatives are chosen to raise the voices of the people and that stopping them would amount to suppressing those voices.
Security Remains Tight in Saharanpur
The administration has maintained strict security arrangements in Saharanpur following the demolition. Police patrolling has also been increased in different areas as the situation continues to remain under close watch.
