Bihar News : Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary honoured the state’s para athletes who won medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday, marking National Sports Day. The felicitation ceremony was held at the ‘Sankalp’ auditorium at the Lok Sevak Awas.
The Chief Minister presented a ₹30 lakh cash award to Bihar athlete Soman Rana, who won the gold medal in the men’s F-57 shot put event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Para powerlifter Jhantu Kumar, who secured a bronze medal in the men’s para powerlifting event, was presented a ₹15 lakh cash award.
Both athletes were also honoured with angavastram and mementos.
CM Interacts With Medal Winners
During the ceremony, Samrat Choudhary interacted with both athletes and learned about their experiences at the Commonwealth Games. He congratulated them for their outstanding performances and wished them success in their future endeavours.
The Chief Minister said the athletes had not only brought pride to the country through their performances but had also made Bihar proud on the national and international sports map.
He added that honouring the state’s athletes was a matter of pride for the government as well as the people of Bihar.
Government Committed to Supporting Athletes
Samrat Choudhary said the Bihar government is committed to encouraging athletes, providing them with better training and necessary facilities, and helping them further develop their talent.
He said the achievements of Bihar’s athletes would inspire the state’s youth to pursue sports and win medals for the country.
The Chief Minister assured that talented athletes from Bihar would receive all possible support and recognition from the government so that they can perform better at national and international levels.
