Bihar News : The Saran district administration has stepped up its preparedness amid the possibility of a rise in the Gandak River water level following continuous rainfall in Nepal’s catchment area and the release of water into rivers. Deputy Chief Minister and Saran in-charge minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav visited the district and conducted a detailed review of preparations to deal with a possible flood situation.
On his arrival at the Circuit House, District Magistrate Vaibhav Srivastava welcomed the minister with a bouquet. He was subsequently given a guard of honour.
During the review meeting that followed, Vijendra Prasad Yadav assessed the arrangements made to deal with a possible disaster with the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police.
24-Hour Monitoring of Embankments
During the meeting, the District Magistrate informed the minister that the embankments along the Gandak River are being monitored continuously round the clock.
SDRF teams have been deployed in sensitive riverside areas including Maker, Panapur, Dariyapur, Amnour, Parsa and Sonepur.
Residents in riverside areas are being alerted through loudspeakers and advised to remain cautious. They have also been advised to move to safe locations if the situation requires.
Patrolling Arrangements Strengthened
Day-and-night patrolling has been arranged to ensure the safety of the embankments. Adequate quantities of essential protective materials have also been made available.
Vijendra Prasad Yadav directed officials to make public safety the top priority. He stressed that there should be no lapse in alertness or preparedness and instructed the administration to remain fully prepared to handle any situation.
Gandak River Flow Currently Normal
According to the district administration, the flow of the Gandak River is currently normal. No erosion has been reported anywhere in the district so far.
The administration has appealed to people not to pay attention to rumours and to rely only on official information.
