Bihar News : Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary honoured Bihar’s para athletes Soman Rana and Jhantu Kumar on Saturday for their medal-winning performances at the Commonwealth Games 2026. The felicitation ceremony was held at the ‘Sankalp’ auditorium at Lok Sevak Awas on the occasion of National Sports Day.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary presented a ₹30 lakh cash award to Bihar athlete Soman Rana, who won the gold medal in the men’s F57 shot put event at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
Para athlete Jhantu Kumar, who won the bronze medal in men’s para powerlifting, was presented a ₹15 lakh cash award.
The Chief Minister also honoured both athletes with an angavastram and memento. He interacted with the players, learned about their experiences and congratulated them on their achievements.
CM Praises Athletes for Bringing Pride to Bihar
On the occasion, Samrat Choudhary said the athletes had brought pride not only to the country but also to Bihar through their outstanding performances on the national and international sports map.
He said honouring the state’s athletes was a matter of pride for everyone.
The Chief Minister said the Bihar government is committed to encouraging athletes, providing them with better training and facilities and helping them develop their talent.
Government Assures Support to Athletes
Samrat Choudhary said the achievements of Bihar’s athletes inspire the state’s youth to pursue sports and win medals for the country.
He said talented athletes from Bihar would receive every possible support and recognition from the government so that they could perform better at national and international levels.

Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Chief Minister’s Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh, Chief Minister’s Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, Sports Department Secretary Deepak Anand, Bihar State Sports Authority Director General Ravindran Shankaran, coach Gautam and other senior officials were present at the event.
