India News : A video purportedly showing a student apologizing for allegedly using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on July 23 has gone viral on social media. In the video, the girl, who claims to be 15 years old, folds her hands and apologizes to the nation, saying she deeply regrets her actions. However, the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.
In the video, the student says that after visiting Connaught Place, she went to the protest site with her friends. She claims she was influenced by people present at the demonstration, who encouraged participants to make remarks against the Prime Minister, and she joined in without fully understanding the consequences.
She says, “I am only 15 years old. What I said was completely wrong and not worthy of forgiveness. This was my first and last mistake. I sincerely apologize to the entire country. I am deeply ashamed of my actions. Please forgive me.”
The apology video surfaced just hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Instagram that he had forgiven the students who allegedly used abusive language against him during the protest. He said that while the remarks directed at him and his late mother were hurtful, young people should be given an opportunity to learn from their mistakes.
Earlier, on July 29, a Zero FIR was registered against the student, identified as Ruchika Singh, at Noida’s Expressway Police Station. She has been accused of using offensive language against the Prime Minister, allegedly insulting the dignity of a constitutional office and attempting to disturb public order. The case was later transferred to Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi for further investigation.
According to reports, the student lived with her mother in a housing society in Noida. Security personnel said she has not returned to the apartment since the protest, and police have visited the society as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which organized the protest, has objected to the FIR. Party spokesperson Saurav Das said that while offensive language cannot be justified, criminal prosecution over such remarks could have implications for freedom of expression. He argued that a defamation case, rather than criminal proceedings, would have been a more appropriate legal remedy.
