Bihar News : Five people were killed and one was critically injured after a speeding vehicle ran over a group of people performing kirtan near a temple in Bihar’s Supaul district late Tuesday night. The accident took place near Bajrangbali Temple along NH-327E at Kataiya Chowk in the Pipra police station area.
According to officials, around six people were performing kirtan near the temple when a speeding vehicle rammed into them. After hitting the group, the vehicle reportedly travelled about 50 metres before crashing into a roadside shop.
The deceased have been identified as Tilai Das (65), Raju Das (50), Surendra Yadav (45), Bhuvneshwari Yadav alias Koili Yadav, and Krishna Mohan Sah. All the victims were residents of Kataiya Panchayat.
Ramchandra Yadav was seriously injured in the accident and is undergoing treatment.
Tilai Das and Raju Das were residents of Ward 12, Surendra Yadav of Ward 15, Bhuvneshwari Yadav alias Koili Yadav of Ward 11, and Krishna Mohan Sah of Ward 13 in Kataiya Panchayat.
The incident triggered panic and grief in the area, with the families of the victims plunged into mourning.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and seized the vehicle involved in the incident. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash.
Late Tuesday night, District Magistrate Sawan Kumar said that the SDM had been sent to the accident site and police were taking necessary action.
The incident has also sparked anger among local residents. On Wednesday morning, villagers began removing temporary roadside shops near Kataiya Chowk.
Residents said that roadside encroachments and temporary shops increase the risk of accidents in the area. They have demanded the removal of such structures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
