Teacher’s death case handed over to CBI, funeral pending for a week

India News : The Haryana government has handed over the probe into the mysterious death of a woman teacher in Bhiwani to the CBI after widespread protests. Chief Minister Nayab Saini announced the decision on social media around 2 am on Tuesday night. The government has already transferred Bhiwani SP and suspended the SHO along with several police personnel.

The teacher, Manisha, left home on August 11 for admission to a nursing college but never returned. On August 13, her body was found in the fields of Singhani village. The post-mortem on August 14 confirmed a slit throat, though no evidence of rape was found. Since then, her family and villagers have been staging protests, and the funeral has not taken place yet.

The state has suspended internet services in Bhiwani district till August 21. Police initially termed it a case of suicide, but growing anger has kept tensions high. Thousands of people are staging demonstrations across the region.

After marathon talks between senior officials and the victim’s family, the administration agreed to a third post-mortem by AIIMS doctors. A committee meeting in the village on Wednesday morning decided that AIIMS doctors will first collect samples, after which the body will be moved for cremation.

Victim’s father Sanjay said they will end the protest if the government provides written assurance on their demands. He thanked supporters and clarified that he was under no pressure.
