National News : The ongoing marital dispute between well-known PCS officer Jyoti Maurya and her husband Alok Maurya has taken a new legal turn. Alok Maurya has approached the Allahabad High Court seeking alimony from his wife.

A division bench of the High Court, comprising Justice Arindam Sinha and Dr. Y.K. Srivastava, heard the plea and issued a notice to Jyoti Maurya, asking her to respond by August 8, 2025.
Alok Maurya stated that he belongs to a modest income group, while his wife draws a significant salary as a senior government officer. He argued that his current financial condition is quite poor and that he needs financial support from his wife until the marital dispute is resolved, so he can sustain himself.
Previously, Alok had filed a similar request in the family court of Azamgarh, but the petition was dismissed. Dissatisfied with the decision, he moved the High Court, which has now agreed to hear the matter.
The court did observe that Alok’s appeal was filed 77 days late and that he had not submitted a certified copy of the family court’s decree. However, the bench accepted his plea to condone the delay and permitted him to file the necessary documents.
Now, all eyes are on the hearing scheduled for August 8, when the court is expected to decide whether Alok Maurya is entitled to receive alimony.
This case is significant not just from a legal standpoint but also touches upon broader issues such as spousal duties, economic inequality in marriages, and equal rights in relationships.
