Jharkhand News : A major railway accident occurred early Saturday morning in Chandil, located in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharsawan district, where two freight trains collided head-on. The incident took place around 4:15 AM near pole number 375/22, about two kilometers from Chandil railway station.
The collision was so intense that multiple wagons of both trains derailed, and the locomotives were severely damaged. Debris scattered across the tracks, completely halting train operations on both the up and down lines.
One freight train was heading from Tatanagar to Bokaro, while the other was coming from Bokaro toward Tatanagar. Preliminary investigation suggests a possible technical glitch in the signaling system. Nearby villagers rushed to the site after hearing a loud explosion and joined the rescue efforts.
Senior officials from South Eastern Railway, along with a relief train and medical teams, arrived at the scene promptly. Some crew members sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Recovery teams are currently working with heavy machinery to clear the debris and restore the track.
All train operations on the Chandil-Tatanagar and Chandil-Bokaro routes have been suspended. Several trains have been diverted or short-terminated. Helpdesks and continuous announcements are being made at stations to update passengers.
According to railway officials, track restoration may take over 24 hours. Passengers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and check the railway website or helpline for real-time updates. A high-level investigation has been ordered. Freight transport has also been significantly disrupted due to the accident.
