India News : The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a revision in Aadhaar update charges, effective October 1, 2025. As per the new fee structure, individuals will have to pay ₹75 for demographic updates (such as name, address, or date of birth corrections), while biometric updates—including fingerprints, iris scans, or photograph changes—will now cost ₹125.
Even children aged 7 to 17 years will now need to pay ₹125 for biometric updates. However, no fee will be charged for issuing a new Aadhaar card. This move could affect rural and small-town residents, for whom the added expense may pose a financial burden.
Mandatory Update for Aadhaar Older Than 10 Years
UIDAI CEO Bhubaneshwar Kumar confirmed that Aadhaar cards that are older than 10 years must be updated to remain valid. Failing to do so may render the Aadhaar number invalid. The update process can be done via the UIDAI website or mAadhaar app, using a registered mobile number for login and biometric authentication.
Documents Required for Aadhaar Update
To update Aadhaar, residents need to visit the nearest Aadhaar center with:

Revised Fee Structure Overview:

Earlier, biometric updates were charged at ₹50 and demographic changes at ₹30. The fee hike reflects UIDAI’s efforts to streamline processes while covering administrative costs.
Changes in Aadhaar Card Format
Significant format updates have also been introduced. Effective August 15, 2025, Aadhaar cards for individuals aged 18 and above will no longer display the father’s or husband’s name. This data will remain securely stored in UIDAI records, enhancing user privacy and reducing the need for name-change requests after marriage or legal name updates.

Only the birth year (not full date) will be visible on the Aadhaar card

The “Care Of” (C/O) field has been removed

Aadhaar card will now only show name, age (birth year), and address
These changes aim to simplify the card format and protect the personal data of Aadhaar holders.
