Vedanta Contributed Nearly ₹5 Lakh Crore to Government Exchequer Over the Last Decade

India News : Vedanta Limited has announced that it contributed ₹62,722 crore to the government exchequer in the financial year 2025-26, according to the company’s 11th Tax Transparency Report. The contribution represents 36% of the company’s total revenue and is the second-highest annual contribution in Vedanta’s history.

The company said its contribution increased by 13.3% year-on-year, taking its cumulative contribution to the government over the past decade to ₹4,83,034 crore. Vedanta stated that it is among the top three private-sector contributors to the Indian exchequer.

Record Financial Performance in FY26

Vedanta attributed the higher contribution to its strongest-ever financial performance during FY26.

Key financial highlights include:

  • Revenue: ₹1,74,075 crore, up 15% year-on-year.
  • EBITDA: ₹55,976 crore, an increase of 29%.
  • Profit After Tax (PAT): ₹25,096 crore, up 22%.
  • Net Debt-to-EBITDA Ratio: Improved from 1.22x to 0.95x, the company’s best level in the last 14 quarters.

Strong Performance Across Business Segments

The company’s diversified portfolio—including zinc, lead, silver, aluminium, copper, iron ore, steel, power, nickel, chrome, and oil & gas—delivered robust operational performance.

Business-wise contribution to the government:

  • Zinc: ₹19,053 crore
  • Aluminium: ₹15,788 crore
  • Oil & Gas: ₹11,697 crore

Highlights of the Tax Transparency Report

Vedanta’s FY26 contribution included:

  • Government Royalties and Profit Petroleum: ₹14,840 crore
  • Income and Capital Taxes: ₹8,290 crore
  • Other Taxes and Duties: ₹11,897 crore, including:
    • Export and import duties: ₹5,980 crore
    • Oil cess/NCCD: ₹2,503 crore
    • Electricity duty: ₹1,252 crore
    • Ineligible GST: ₹1,663 crore
  • Indirect Taxes (CGST, SGST and IGST): ₹21,777 crore
  • Withholding Taxes: ₹3,188 crore
  • Corporate Dividend to the Government of India: ₹1,180 crore through the Government’s 27.92% stake in Hindustan Zinc Limited.

Commitment to Transparency and ESG

Vedanta said tax transparency remains a key pillar of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework. The company has voluntarily published its Tax Transparency Report for 11 consecutive years, reinforcing its commitment to responsible corporate governance and stakeholder trust.

The company added that its tax principles are aligned with the B-Team Responsible Tax Principles and the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), reflecting its commitment to responsible corporate citizenship.
