New Delhi: On Saturday, as the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ marked 151 years since its composition, several leaders—including President Droupadi Murmu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh—extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the nation.
Writing on the social media platform X, the President stated, “On the occasion of the 151st anniversary of the composition of the national song ‘Vande Mataram,’ I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all my fellow citizens. During the freedom struggle, this song served as a symbol of courage, unity, and resolve for patriots. Even today, it reflects our national identity, self-respect, and dedication to our motherland. I hope that our citizens will embrace the spirit of ‘nation first’—a sentiment embodied in ‘Vande Mataram’—and contribute to nation-building.”
The Lok Sabha Speaker remarked that ‘Vande Mataram’—an immortal song of reverence and patriotism for ‘Bharat Mata’ (Mother India)—stands as a powerful symbol of India’s national consciousness, self-respect, and unity.
The Union Minister of Textiles noted that this inspirational song, dedicated to the feet of ‘Bharat Mata,’ ignites a profound love for the country and a spirit of patriotism in the heart of every Indian.
The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare described ‘Vande Mataram’ as the voice of India’s soul. It inspires everyone to love their motherland, remain dedicated to it, and serve it. During the freedom struggle, this song awakened a desire for independence in the hearts of the people and helped unite the nation. A profound salute to the brave revolutionaries who sacrificed everything for the freedom of ‘Bharat Mata.’ It is noteworthy that this timeless song, composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875, served to awaken a spirit of patriotism among people across the country during the freedom movement. Particularly during the Swadeshi movement of 1905, ‘Vande Mataram’ became a source of inspiration for freedom fighters—a rallying cry that infused new energy into the struggle against foreign rule.
Every word of this song reflects reverence, sacrifice, dedication, and pride for the motherland. It gave countless revolutionaries and fellow countrymen the courage to sacrifice everything they possessed for the nation’s freedom.
