27% of Candidates in First Phase of Bihar Assembly Polls Face Serious Criminal Charges

Bihar News : As Bihar heads toward the 2025 Assembly Elections, voting will take place in two phases — November 6 and November 11. According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Bihar Election Watch, 27 percent of candidates contesting in the first phase face serious criminal cases.

Out of 1,314 candidates in the first phase, 1,303 have filed affidavits. The ADR report reveals that 423 (32%) candidates have declared criminal cases against them, while 354 (27%) face serious charges such as murder, attempt to murder, rape, and crimes against women.

The data shows that 33 candidates are accused of murder, 86 of attempted murder, and 42 of crimes against women.

Among major parties, all CPM candidates (100%) face serious charges, followed by CPI (80%), CPI (ML) (64%), RJD (60%), and BJP (56%). The Congress also fares poorly, with 52% of its candidates accused in serious criminal cases.
