Jharkhand News : Jharkhand Police achieved a major breakthrough on Friday when a dreaded Naxalite, wanted in as many as 35 criminal cases, surrendered before the police in Latehar district.

According to officials, the surrendered Naxalite has been identified as Alok Yadav alias Chandrashekhar Kumar Yadav, a resident of Bhagiya village under the Balumath police station area. He was an active member of the banned extremist outfit People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI).

Latehar Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav said that Yadav was carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh on his head. Criminal cases against him were registered in police stations across Latehar, Chatra and Ranchi districts. During the surrender, Yadav handed over a country-made pistol, four live cartridges and other personal belongings to the police.

Under the state government’s ‘Nayi Disha’ surrender and rehabilitation scheme, the surrendered Naxalite was provided a cheque of ₹1 lakh as an incentive to rejoin the mainstream.

Meanwhile, police also arrested a member of the banned extremist organisation Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) from McCluskieganj in Ranchi district. Rural SP Praveen Pushkar identified the arrested accused as Salman Khan, a resident of Khalari.
