Jharkhand News : The menace of wild elephants has turned deadly in Gomia block of Bokaro district, triggering fear and anger among villagers. The latest incident was reported from Gangpur village, where a herd of elephants entered the village late Friday night and attacked a house.
Before the residents could react or escape, the elephants crushed two members of the same family to death. In the same attack, three other family members were critically injured. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where their condition remains serious.
Five deaths in three days
This is not an isolated incident. Just two days earlier, elephants had trampled three villagers to death while they were asleep inside their home. With the latest deaths, the toll from elephant attacks in the area has risen to five fatalities within the last 72 hours.
Villagers angry, forest department under fire
The repeated attacks have sparked strong resentment among local residents against the forest department. Villagers allege that they are not being given timely information about elephant movement and that adequate safety measures are missing.
As night falls, villagers are forced to stay awake, lighting torches and making loud noises to scare away the animals. However, these efforts have proved insufficient against large elephant herds, deepening fear and insecurity across the region.
The situation in Gomia has emerged as a serious challenge for the forest administration, with residents demanding immediate and concrete steps to prevent further loss of life.
