A grand event is being organized in Kathmandu’s National Assembly Hall, with supporters arriving from across the country to witness this significant political development.

Bidya Bhandari, who previously served as the Vice President of the Communist Party of Nepal – Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), is expected to rejoin the party and resume her political journey. The venue is adorned with banners and hoardings suggesting that she may be handed the leadership role within the party, marking a powerful return to Nepal’s political landscape.
Her comeback coincides with the birth anniversary of her late husband, Madan Bhandari, a revered CPN-UML leader and one of the founding figures of the party. The choice of date is symbolic, adding emotional significance to the occasion and rallying party loyalists around her legacy.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, currently the most prominent face of the CPN-UML, has been invited as the chief guest for the event. However, his presence remains uncertain. In past public statements, PM Oli has expressed his disapproval of former Presidents and Vice Presidents returning to active politics, citing constitutional and ethical concerns.
Despite this, the program is moving forward with strong momentum. Supporters of Bidya Bhandari, including former CPN-UML Vice President Surendra Pandey, have insisted that the Prime Minister should attend the ceremony and support her political return. He emphasized that honoring Madan Bhandari’s legacy and Bidya’s leadership potential should be a unifying moment for the party.
As the political atmosphere intensifies in Kathmandu, all eyes are on whether PM Oli will attend the event and how Bidya Bhandari’s comeback will reshape Nepal’s political equations within the CPN-UML and beyond.
Her return is seen not just as a personal political reentry but also as a strategic move within the party to reenergize its support base ahead of upcoming electoral cycles. The development is expected to significantly influence Nepal’s political discourse in the coming months.
