₹385 Crore to Transform Jharkhand's Healthcare Infrastructure; New Critical Care Blocks and Wellness Centres Planned

Jharkhand News : In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure, the Jharkhand government has received approval for ₹385 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) for the financial year 2026–27.

The funds will be used to strengthen healthcare services across the state by constructing new Critical Care Blocks (CCBs), Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs), Public Health Units (PHUs), and health sub-centres. The project will be jointly funded by the Centre and the State in a 60:40 ratio, with the Central Government contributing ₹231 crore and the Jharkhand Government providing ₹154 crore.

According to the government, the allocation will be utilized for constructing health sub-centres where buildings do not currently exist, establishing Urban Health and Wellness Centres, developing Public Health Units at the block level, and setting up modern Public Health Laboratories at the district level.

The plan also includes the construction of 50-bed and 100-bed Critical Care Blocks in district hospitals, while government medical colleges will receive 50-bed Critical Care Blocks to improve treatment facilities for critically ill patients.

Allocation of Funds

The approved amount has been distributed across various sectors:

  • Urban Health Services: ₹238.70 crore
  • Scheduled Caste Special Plan: ₹46.20 crore
  • Tribal Area Sub-Plan: ₹100.10 crore

The Central Government has extended the PM-ABHIM scheme until September 30, 2026, or until the review of schemes under the 16th Finance Commission, whichever is earlier. It has also clarified that there will be no duplication of benefits with any other government scheme.

Funds will be released through the e-Kuber platform of the Reserve Bank of India and the SNA SPARSH system to ensure timely availability of funds.

The Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department will serve as the controlling authority for the scheme. At the state level, the Director-in-Chief (Health Services), and at the district level, Civil Surgeons will oversee implementation and expenditure. The utilisation of funds and project execution will be subject to audits by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the State Finance Department.
