Bihar News : Students studying in government schools across Bihar are set to benefit from a major library expansion plan. The state government is preparing to establish libraries in more than 43,000 government schools and has approved a budget of Rs 134 crore for the initiative.
The new libraries will provide students with access to books as well as digital learning facilities. Existing libraries will also be upgraded with modern facilities.
Librarians to Be Appointed in Middle Schools
Around 2,000 librarians are currently working in schools across the state. Several middle schools have vacant librarian posts, and appointments will be made in these schools as new libraries begin functioning.
However, primary schools will not have separate librarian appointments. Headmasters and teachers will be responsible for managing the libraries in these schools.
Around 100 Types of Books to Be Available
School libraries will provide students with around 100 types of books. Apart from books related to the academic curriculum, the collection will include storybooks, children’s literature and knowledge-based books.
Students will also get the opportunity to read works by renowned writers such as Premchand, Jaishankar Prasad, Phanishwar Nath Renu, Rahul Sankrityayan and Nirala.
Focus on Digital Libraries
The government’s plan also includes digital libraries. Through these facilities, students will be able to access online books and other study materials.
The objective is to develop reading habits among children while also connecting them with digital learning resources.
Libraries to Be Developed Under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan
The initiative will be implemented under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. The Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation has been given the responsibility of constructing new library buildings.
The plan aims to improve reading resources in government schools by establishing new libraries and upgrading existing facilities with modern and digital learning options.
