Kolkata: A major fire broke out late Sunday night in a multi-storey building located in the Lyons Range area, behind the Mahakaran (Writers’ Building) in Kolkata.
According to sources, the fire started on the fourth floor of a five-storey commercial building. Upon receiving information about the incident, the fire department swung into action and dispatched 10 fire tenders to the scene. After several hours of intense effort by the firefighters, the blaze was largely brought under control, although smoke was still seen rising from the site on Monday morning.
Reports indicate that the building is entirely commercial, housing offices for several companies. Consequently, significant damage to property and items kept within these offices is feared. The cause of the fire remains unclear. Fire department officials stated that the situation is now fully under control, and a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
