Ranchi: An incident that has brought embarrassment to the police department has come to light in the capital, Ranchi. Ten police personnel have been suspended for gambling—and facilitating gambling—within the premises of the Police Lines. This conduct has been deemed a violation of departmental discipline and the dignity of the police uniform. Upon learning of the incident, senior officers took immediate action and suspended all those involved. Furthermore, a departmental inquiry has been initiated against them.
According to reports, complaints had been received for some time regarding police personnel engaging in illegal gambling activities within the Ranchi Police Lines complex. It is understood that senior officials were informed that such activities were taking place within a sensitive and disciplined environment like the Police Lines. Taking these complaints seriously, the authorities devised a plan to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
Consequently, a special team led by senior officers was formed on Saturday. The team conducted a surprise raid on the Police Lines premises, surrounding a specific, pre-identified location. During the raid, 10 police personnel were caught red-handed while allegedly gambling.
Sergeant Major Anand Raj Khalkho stated that action has been taken against the police personnel involved following the discovery of gambling activities within the Police Lines. All 10 individuals have been suspended, and formal disciplinary and departmental proceedings have been initiated against them.
Officials emphasize that police personnel bear the responsibility of maintaining law and order and fostering public trust in the legal system. When members of the police force themselves engage in undisciplined activities, it raises serious questions regarding the department’s image and its operational integrity. Currently, the process of departmental action against all the suspended police personnel is underway. During the investigation, other facts related to the case will also be examined. This action is considered an important step toward maintaining discipline within the police department.
