Jyotirmath: The rescue operation following the helicopter crash near Joshimath, in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, has concluded with the recovery of the bodies of all six individuals who lost their lives. The bodies were transported to a road-accessible point following an operation conducted amidst challenging geographical conditions in a remote, high-altitude mountainous region. From there, they were taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Joshimath. After completing the necessary formalities, all six bodies were airlifted today to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh.

According to the administration, teams from various rescue agencies had been engaged in the operation at the site since the incident occurred. The rescue teams faced significant challenges due to the remote, mountainous terrain and the difficult, rugged path leading to the crash site. Despite these obstacles, the Indian Army, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBBP), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the police, the district administration, and the Forest Department worked in coordination to carry out the operation.

Personnel from the rescue teams reached the site on foot, navigating arduous mountain trails. They successfully recovered the bodies of all six victims and brought them to a location accessible by road.

Given the challenging geography of the mountainous region and the difficulties in movement, the operation utilized the combined resources and manpower of various agencies.

The bodies were transported by road to the Community Health Centre in Joshimath, where the required legal and medical formalities were completed. Subsequently, arrangements were made to transport all six bodies via helicopter from the NTPC helipad to AIIMS, Rishikesh. The operation to recover the bodies of all six individuals who lost their lives in the accident and transport them to the designated medical facility has been completed. The rescue mission involved a coordinated effort by the Army, the local administration, and various disaster management agencies.

It is noteworthy that on October 30, a private helicopter returning from Badrinath Dham to Dehradun crashed in the Joshimath area of Chamoli district. The AS-350B-3 helicopter, operated by Trans Bharat Aviation Private Limited, had departed from the Badrinath helipad at approximately 1:14 PM, bound for the Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun. There were six people on board, including the pilot and five passengers.

The helicopter crashed in a forested area near Chai village in the Joshimath region. Upon receiving news of the incident, the local administration, police, and security agencies immediately launched a search and rescue operation. The rescue teams faced significant challenges in reaching the site, as it was located in a remote, rugged, and forested mountainous area.

Both the pilot and the five passengers on board perished in the accident.

Following the crash, rescue teams arrived at the scene and commenced relief operations. The recovery of the mortal remains proved to be a complex task due to the difficult terrain, high altitude, and adverse conditions in the mountainous region. Personnel from various agencies worked in coordination to carry out the operation, successfully recovering all six bodies.

With the transport of all six bodies to AIIMS Rishikesh, the recovery operation at the crash site has concluded. The joint effort by various rescue agencies highlights the immense challenges involved in conducting relief operations during disasters or accidents in remote Himalayan regions.
