Gautam Adani to Lead Landmark Rural Vision Care Initiative in Bihar

India Must Define Its Own Growth Path, Says Gautam Adani at IIT ISM

India News : Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, will lead the ground-breaking ceremony for a major rural vision care initiative in Bihar on Sunday, marking the launch of what is expected to become one of India’s most significant community healthcare outreach ecosystems for underserved regions.

The initiative, being developed in partnership with Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital, aims to strengthen affordable eye treatment, rural vision care and healthcare skilling across northern and central India, with the potential to benefit crores of underprivileged people.

The ceremony will take place in Mastichak, around 70 kilometres from Patna, and is expected to mark a major expansion in affordable rural healthcare infrastructure in the region.

According to organisers, the expanded Mastichak ecosystem will evolve into one of the world’s largest rural vision care networks, enhancing outreach services, treatment access, skilling capacity and last-mile healthcare delivery in underserved communities.

The initiative reflects Mr Adani’s philosophy of “Seva Hi Saadhna Hai” — service is the highest form of worship — a principle that has increasingly shaped the Group’s social outreach and nation-building initiatives across India.

The programme also reinforces Bihar’s growing importance in the Adani Group’s broader development plans, which span infrastructure, energy, logistics, cement, city gas distribution and community development.

In 2022, on his 60th birthday, the Adani family announced a ₹60,000 crore commitment towards healthcare, education and skill development initiatives across India, one of the country’s largest philanthropic pledges.

Last year, during the wedding celebrations of Jeet Adani, the family announced an additional ₹10,000 crore social commitment for healthcare, education and skilling programmes nationwide.

The Group has also expanded its seva-led outreach through large-scale humanitarian initiatives, including support for nearly 50 lakh pilgrims during the Maha Kumbh and the distribution of nearly 40 lakh free meals and refreshments during the Jagannath Rath Yatra in 2025.

Founded in 2005 as a 30-bed facility in rural Bihar, Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital has grown into one of India’s leading eye care institutions, conducting more than 14 lakh sight-restoring surgeries and millions of screenings over the years.

The new initiative also builds on the Adani Foundation’s expanding Vision Care Programme, which since its launch in 2024 has conducted 1.93 lakh eye screenings and provided prescription eyeglasses to more than 59,000 beneficiaries across 11 states through school screenings, rural outreach and referral support programmes.
