Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Slams Centre, Alleges Hidden Agenda Behind New Laws

Jharkhand News : On the final day of the Jharkhand Assembly’s monsoon session, Chief Minister Hemant Soren launched a scathing attack on the central government, accusing it of systematically obstructing state governance through constitutional institutions and legal manipulation. “It seems like the law is in their pocket,” he said during his address.

Soren alleged that several constitutional bodies were being misused to target non-BJP state governments, especially those working for the welfare of Dalits, tribals, backward communities, and farmers. “The state has a people’s government, unlike others where opposition governments are being cornered,” he said, citing the condition of minorities and tribals in other states.

He criticized the Centre’s failure to honor tribal icons, referencing Ladakh’s Sonam Wangchuk, who was overlooked for a Padma Shri despite significant contributions. The CM also questioned the intent behind proposed legal amendments that could unseat elected leaders for serving 30 days in jail. “There’s a hidden agenda behind these changes,” he warned.

Highlighting Jharkhand’s contribution to the nation, Soren said the state’s mineral wealth has made billionaires out of many, while the local population suffers. He raised concerns about uranium-linked health hazards and environmental degradation due to unchecked mining. “The PMO directly monitors mine auctions. If this continues, soon there will be no space left for anything except mining,” he said.

On the controversial RIMS-2 project, he accused political opponents of spreading misinformation and manipulating public opinion for gains. He further alleged that fake political parties in Gujarat received massive donations through opaque electoral bonds. “Ten obscure parties received ₹4,300 crore, but only ₹25–26 crore was accounted for,” he stated.

The CM also criticized the use of event management for political optics, including the cancellation of a scheduled event involving President Murmu on Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary. “Even PM’s flagship announcements haven’t materialized,” he added.

Calling for long-term development planning, Soren emphasized the need for a 30-40 year roadmap to safeguard Jharkhand’s interests. He urged the opposition to move away from negative politics and contribute constructively.

He questioned the Centre’s ambition to make India a “Vishwaguru,” asking whether it was for the country or for their business allies. The Assembly passed a resolution recommending Bharat Ratna for Dishom Guru Shibu Soren, and the CM expressed hope that the Centre would act on it.
