Jharkhand Elephant Attack: Vendor Pulled Out of Car, Crushed to Death in Gomia

Wild Elephant Menace Continues in Khunti, Woman Crushed to Death

Jharkhand News : Panic has gripped parts of Jharkhand’s Bermo subdivision after a shocking incident in which a man was allegedly pulled out of a vehicle and trampled to death by wild elephants in the Gomia block.

According to local reports, the incident occurred late Sunday night in Kander area. The deceased, identified as Ravindra, was a vegetable vendor and was returning home after selling vegetables in Ramgarh. Near Simraberda Mahato Tola on the main road, a herd of elephants reportedly intercepted his Maruti Omni and allegedly dragged him out before pulling him into a nearby field, where he was fatally trampled.

Locals claimed that some people had warned him not to proceed due to elephant movement in the area, but he continued. The incident has intensified fear among commuters, with residents saying that even travelling in small four-wheelers no longer feels safe.

The region—particularly rural pockets of Gomia, Nawadih and Peterwar—has witnessed recurring human-elephant conflict for years. In recent days, villagers say elephant movement has increased again, raising fresh concerns over safety and the effectiveness of preventive measures.
