Jharkhand News : In a major action against corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Palamu division on Thursday arrested Vinod Kumar, the head clerk (Bada Babu) of the Chanpur Block Office, after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹5,500.
According to official sources, the complainant had approached the clerk to obtain certified land document copies. In exchange, the clerk allegedly demanded money to process the request, following which the victim filed a formal complaint with the ACB. After reviewing the evidence and conducting a preliminary investigation, the ACB found the allegation to be valid.
Subsequently, a trap was set by the ACB team, and Vinod Kumar was arrested at the scene while accepting the bribe amount. Officers seized the money and took him into custody immediately.
Officials stated that further legal proceedings have been initiated and a detailed investigation is underway. Following the arrest, the accused will be produced in court, and the ACB is likely to file a chargesheet soon.
Local residents have welcomed the action, stating that illegal monetary demands for land-related work, including issuance of land extracts and certified copies, have been a long-standing issue in many block offices. The arrest has sparked expectations of stricter monitoring and transparency in land-related administrative services in the region.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has intensified surveillance at government offices across Jharkhand, especially where public dealings are routine. Officers emphasized that strict action will continue against officials involved in bribery, misconduct, and misuse of power.
This arrest is being seen as a strong move toward curbing bureaucratic corruption and ensuring public convenience in administrative services.
