Wild Elephants Stray onto NH-33, Traffic Comes to a Standstill in Ramgarh

Jharkhand News : The menace of wild elephants continues in Ramgarh district, creating fear and disruption in daily life. For the past one week, a herd of elephants has been roaming continuously along its corridor, causing large-scale destruction to whatever comes in their way. So far, nine people have reportedly lost their lives due to elephant attacks in the region.

On Saturday morning, the situation escalated when a wild elephant emerged from the forest and reached National Highway-33 (NH-33). A massive elephant suddenly appeared on the highway, triggering panic among commuters. Within minutes, vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road, resulting in long traffic jams stretching several kilometers. Drivers and passengers remained trapped inside their vehicles for hours, fearing for their safety.

Dense fog and poor visibility worsened the situation, leading to chaos on the highway. Fortunately, the Forest Department team arrived at the spot in time and managed to control the situation with caution and expertise. The elephant was safely driven back toward its designated corridor. Officials said that even a slight delay could have resulted in a major accident on the busy highway.

Once the elephant moved away, traffic that had remained halted for hours was finally restored, bringing relief to stranded travelers.

Amid freezing cold and thick fog, the frequent movement of elephants has become a serious challenge for the Forest Department. The herd has been spotted wandering toward Ghatotand, Kuju, and even near the Ramgarh city limits. Forest teams are working round the clock to guide the elephants back to their safe corridor.

At present, the continuous movement of wild elephants in Ramgarh has emerged as a major concern for forest officials and local residents alike.
