World News : A catastrophic landslide has devastated Tarasin village in the Marrah mountain range, leaving over 1,000 people dead and burying the entire community under mud and rocks. According to initial reports, only one person has survived the disaster.
Triggered by days of heavy rainfall, the landslide swept away the citrus-farming village, reducing it to rubble. The Sudan Liberation Army said hundreds of bodies remain trapped beneath the debris, with recovery efforts proving extremely difficult.
Darfur Governor Minni Minawi called the disaster “a tragedy beyond humanity” and appealed for urgent assistance from the United Nations and international aid agencies.
Sudan is already facing a deep crisis amid ongoing conflict between the army and paramilitary forces, which has left nearly 10 million people displaced, including over 4 million who fled to neighboring countries. Relief agencies are struggling to access many parts of Darfur, compounding the humanitarian emergency.
