Jharkhand News : The Jharkhand Cabinet on Wednesday discussed a proposal to declare the globally renowned Saranda region in West Singhbhum district as a wildlife sanctuary. To take a final decision, the Cabinet has constituted a Group of Ministers (GoM), which will submit its recommendations after studying the economic and social implications of the proposed sanctuary. Relevant departments and stakeholders will also provide their inputs before a final decision is brought back to the Cabinet.
As per the plan, 575.19 square kilometers will be designated as a protected area. Villages including Ankua, Samta, Karmapada, Gudlibagh, Trikoshi, and Thalkuwad will be part of the sanctuary. Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel provided this information after the meeting, which approved a total of 27 proposals.
The Saranda forest is known as a treasure trove of biodiversity. It is home to the endangered flying lizard, over 40 species of mammals, 162 bird species, 9 amphibian species, and 33 reptile species. The region is also known for its wild elephant population, which is famous across the country.
Mandal Dam: 780 Displaced Families to Receive Compensation and Land
The Cabinet approved a rehabilitation package for 780 families displaced by the Mandal Dam and Palamu Tiger Reserve projects in Latehar district. Each affected family will receive ₹15 lakh in compensation along with one acre of land.
One-Year Extension for Assistant Police Personnel
The state’s assistant police personnel have been granted a one-year service extension under existing terms and conditions.
₹97.65 Crore Approved for Ranchi Polytechnic College Building
The Cabinet also sanctioned ₹97.65 crore for the construction of a new building for the Government Polytechnic College in Ranchi.
