Jharkhand News : The Jharkhand High Court has taken a strict stance on the illegal allocation and registry issues concerning land within the RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences) campus. The court has directed the state government to hold all responsible officials accountable. Additionally, it ordered that victims who were evicted or harassed must receive appropriate compensation from the involved officials and builders.
The division bench of Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, while hearing the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Jyoti Sharma, instructed the police to register FIRs against officials who allegedly colluded with builders to illegally occupy RIMS land.
In its December 20 order, the court noted that the officers responsible for land registration should have been more vigilant. Due to their negligence, several people were removed from land acquired by RIMS. The court expressed surprise that the RIMS administration remained silent for a long period even while construction activities continued on the occupied land.
The PIL was filed in 2018, but the hospital never informed the court that its land had been encroached upon. The matter came to light when the Member Secretary of the Jharkhand Legal Services Authority conducted an investigation under court directions and found that about seven acres within the RIMS campus had been illegally occupied.
Subsequently, on December 3, the High Court ordered the administration to remove all illegal encroachments within 72 hours. Following the order, the district administration initiated demolition of structures built on RIMS land. The court also noted that revenue records were available at all times, yet no officer stepped forward. Titles were repeatedly altered in favor of private parties, and tampering was done in rental receipts, revenue records, and non-indebtedness certificates.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 6, 2026.
