Jharkhand News : The menace of wild elephants has taken a terrifying turn in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa district. Late Tuesday night, a rogue tusker entered a village and crushed five members of the same family to death, pushing the number of fatalities due to elephant attacks in the past one week to 17. The incident has plunged the region into grief and panic.
Attack on Sleeping Family
According to eyewitnesses, the victim family was sleeping inside their house when the elephant suddenly entered the village late at night. The tusker first damaged the house, breaking through its walls, and then barged inside.
After destroying the structure, the elephant attacked the people inside the house. The husband, wife and their three young children were killed on the spot. One child of the family reportedly survived the attack by a narrow escape.
House Destroyed, Village in Shock
As news of the incident spread, villagers and local administration officials reached the spot on Wednesday morning. The deaths of five family members triggered widespread mourning across the village. With repeated elephant attacks in recent days, fear and anger have gripped the local population.
Villagers alleged that efforts by the forest department to control elephant movement have proved inadequate. They have demanded immediate and effective measures to drive elephants away from residential areas and prevent further loss of human lives.
Forest and district authorities are expected to review the situation as human–wildlife conflict continues to escalate in the region.
