World News : Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has accused India’s Border Security Force (BSF) of increasing tensions along the international border by allegedly pushing people into Bangladesh without following established procedures. BGB has stated that it will not accept any individuals who are sent across the border illegally.
Verification Required Before Acceptance
BGB spokesperson and Deputy Director General Colonel Abu Hasnat Mohammad Mahmud Azam said that if any individual claims Bangladeshi citizenship, their identity must first be verified through designated border checkpoints in accordance with international rules and procedures. Only after verification will further action be taken.
He added that BGB is fully prepared to handle any situation along the border. Due to the reported increase in such incidents, leave for several personnel was reportedly canceled during the Eid-ul-Adha period.
Attempted Border Crossing Foiled at Jessore
According to BGB, an attempt was made late Sunday night to push 10 people—including women, men, and children—into Bangladesh through a gate in the barbed-wire fence near the Benapole border area in the Sharsa upazila of Jessore.
BGB personnel intervened and prevented the crossing. The individuals are currently stranded in the “zero line” or no-man’s-land area near Sadipur village close to the Benapole border.
Allegation of No Response from BSF
The BGB spokesperson said a letter had been sent to the BSF seeking resolution of the issue, but no response had been received as of Monday evening.
He further alleged that incidents involving Bengali-speaking individuals being pushed toward Bangladesh without following recognized international border-management procedures have increased over the past month.
Increase in Such Cases During May
According to Lieutenant Colonel Ghulam Mohammad Saiful Alam Khan, commander of the Jessore 49 BGB Battalion, several incidents were reported in May in which Bengali-speaking individuals were allegedly labeled as illegal migrants and pushed toward Bangladesh.
He claimed that the number of such incidents rose significantly after May 24. In the Satkhira border region alone, more than 100 women, men, and children were allegedly pushed toward Bangladesh. Similar incidents were also reported in the Chuadanga and Darshana border areas, where several people were detained.
Security Tightened Along the Border
BGB officials said that:
- Border patrols have been intensified.
- Additional personnel have been deployed.
- Intelligence operations have been strengthened.
- Local border communities have been involved in surveillance efforts.
The force stated that it is taking all necessary measures to maintain border security and prevent unauthorized crossings while dealing with the situation in accordance with international procedures.
