World News : In a sweeping move, the Nepal government has ordered all mobile and internet service providers to block unregistered social media platforms across the country. Following Thursday’s directive, 26 platforms—including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter)—are now inaccessible in Nepal.
The ban applies to any platform not officially registered with Nepal’s authorities. Mobile operators and ISPs have confirmed compliance with the order, issuing separate statements on the shutdown.
Meanwhile, Nepal’s Ministry of Information and Communication spokesperson Gajendra Thakur said Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has reached out to the government. Meta’s Singapore office reportedly contacted the ministry to seek details on the registration process and required documentation.
