Cold Wave and Dense Fog Test Jharkhand, IMD Predicts Partial Relief

Jharkhand News : Jharkhand continues to reel under an intense cold wave and dense fog, with several districts recording the season’s lowest temperatures on Sunday. Cold winds and biting chill have pushed minimum temperatures further down, severely impacting daily life across the state.

The minimum temperature in Ranchi dropped to 6.2°C, while Kanke recorded the coldest night in the state at 2.5°C, the lowest so far this winter season. Residents of the capital experienced severe cold and chilling winds during the early morning hours.

According to IMD Ranchi scientist Abhishek Anand, cold conditions are likely to persist in Ranchi and nearby districts on Monday morning as well. The Meteorological Department has forecast foggy conditions across Jharkhand for the next five days. However, some relief is expected after the next 24 hours, as minimum temperatures in a few districts may begin to rise.

Over the past 24 hours, Gumla recorded a minimum of 2.9°C, Lohardaga 3.7°C, and most districts reported temperatures below 10°C. Cold wave conditions were observed in Hazaribagh, Khunti, Koderma, Simdega, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Latehar and Palamu.

Meanwhile, East Singhbhum remained slightly warmer, with the minimum temperature crossing the 10°C mark at 10.1°C. In Medininagar, the maximum temperature stood at 18.1°C, while the minimum was 6.1°C, making even afternoon hours feel unusually cold.

IMD Relief Forecast

The IMD has attributed the likely rise in temperature to the weakening of cold winds due to the impact of an approaching western disturbance. From December 30 to January 2, wind speeds are expected to slow down, leading to a gradual increase in night temperatures.

Meteorologists predict that minimum temperatures may rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three to four days, reducing the severity of cold nights and early morning chill.
