Dhanbad: One More Death Due to Toxic Gas in Kenduadih, Anger Against BCCL

Jharkhand News : Toxic gas leakage has once again claimed a life in the Kenduadih police station area of Dhanbad district. The death of 40-year-old Surendra Singh under suspicious circumstances has triggered panic and anger among local residents, who have squarely blamed the management of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) for negligence.

According to locals, Surendra Singh, a member of the Janta Mazdoor Sangh, went to sleep in his room on Monday night but did not wake up the next morning. When family members found no movement in his body, they rushed him to Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), where doctors declared him dead.

Residents claim that Surendra Singh died due to suffocation caused by toxic gas spreading in the area. However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.

Former MLA Meets the Victim’s Family

After learning about the incident, former Jharia MLA Sanjeev Singh reached the hospital and met the victim’s family. He strongly criticized the BCCL management, stating that the problem of gas leakage has persisted for years, but authorities have confined themselves to paperwork instead of implementing effective safety measures on the ground.

Questions Raised Over Management’s Working Style

Local resident Mohammad Zahid also raised serious concerns over BCCL’s functioning. He said that although six boring holes were drilled to control gas leakage, nitrogen filling has been carried out in only two of them. Due to this slow pace of work, no positive results have been seen, forcing residents to live under constant threat to their lives.

Safety System Exposed

The gas leakage issue in Kenduadih has now turned deadly. As per available information, two women and one man have lost their lives so far due to the impact of toxic gas. Repeated fatalities have exposed serious lapses in BCCL’s safety arrangements and disaster management system.

Local residents have demanded immediate and concrete action from the administration to prevent further loss of life and to provide relief to affected families.
