Jharkhand News : In Giridih district of Jharkhand, there exists a unique Shiva temple known as Jharkhand Dham, where devotees have been following the tradition of fasting and holding dharna (sit-in protests) for the fulfillment of their wishes. Located about 45 kilometers from the Giridih district headquarters in the Jamua block, this temple is steeped in Mahabharata-related mythology and holds significant religious importance.
What sets Jharkhand Dham apart from other Shiva temples is the special tradition followed here by the devotees. Devotees come to the temple to seek blessings for their wishes and stay for weeks or even months fasting in the temple premises. Once they sense or experience a sign—often through dreams or other sources—indicating that their wish will be fulfilled, they express gratitude to Baba Shiva and return home. This practice continues year-round, with an unwavering flow of devotees seeking divine intervention.
Another unique feature of this temple is that Lord Shiva prefers to reside under the open sky, without a roof. Despite multiple attempts by devotees to build a roof over the sanctum, these efforts have failed, allegedly due to miraculous occurrences. According to local beliefs, during the Mahabharata period, Lord Shiva granted Arjuna the Pashupatra Astra at this very location.
Local legend also narrates that there was a stone where children from the village used to climb and pick berries, which are believed to be dear to Lord Shiva. One day, a miraculous event occurred at this stone, and it transformed into two Shivalingas, which the villagers started worshiping.
Social workers Anil Verma and Anup Verma explained that all devotees who come to Jharkhand Dham with a sincere heart find their desires fulfilled. Whether it takes days, weeks, or months, the wishes are granted in due time. Devotees serve in the temple, performing daily prayers and rituals, and once their wishes are fulfilled, they return to express their gratitude by performing water offerings to Lord Shiva.
